ScaleUp North Florida Partners
The new ScaleUp America initiative is made possible through support from the U.S. Small Business Administration to the University of North Florida and the Florida Small Business Development Center at UNF.
Small Business Administration (SBA)
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation. SBA recognizes that small business is critical to our economic recovery and strength, to building America’s future, and to helping the United States compete in today’s global marketplace. Although SBA has grown and evolved in the years since it was established in 1953, the bottom line mission remains the same. The SBA helps Americans start, build and grow businesses. Through an extensive network of field offices and partnerships with public and private organizations, SBA delivers its services to people throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the U. S. Virgin Islands and Guam.
University of North Florida
The University of North Florida – established in 1972 – has expanded from a handful of buildings to a thriving campus with five colleges and some 16,500 students on Jacksonville’s southside. UNF is now showing up in nearly every national college ranking, and while the national recognition is an important benchmark of quality and value, it is the small class sizes and individualized attention that have become hallmarks of a UNF education. By fostering the intellectual and cultural growth and civic awareness of its students, UNF is preparing them to make significant contributions to their communities in the region and beyond.
Florida Small Business Development Center
For more than 38 years, UNF has hosted the Florida Small Business Development Center program in North Florida. Serving 18 counties, the FSBDC at UNF provides consulting, training and information to thousands of potential and existing business owners each year. Through a cooperative agreement with SBA and accredited by the Association of SBDCs, Florida SBDCs are state designated as Florida’s principal provider of business assistance. As a partnership between government, higher education and economic development organizations, the FSBDC at UNF aids in the development and education of the state’s entrepreneurs and small businesses resulting in positive economic impact for the region, the state and the nation.
Community First Credit Union
Every day, we help people in North Florida grow their businesses with innovative mobile tools, a business rewards platform, loans and of course checking with true value. We also strongly support local community events that help foster growing small businesses and inspire new ideas. We recognize that this type of support will help our local community thrive and support the local economy. Our goal is to give small business owners one more reason to love where they bank.
